“Ribadu’s Defection to PDP won’t Affect Our Electoral Fortunes” – APC

Nuhu-Ribadu BellaNaija
Yola (NAN) – The All Progressives Congress (APC), said on Sunday in Yola that the defection of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not affect the fortunes of the party in Adamawa.
APC Secretary in Adamawa, Alhaji Abdullahi Bakari, who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the defection would not affect the party’s chances in the Oct.11 governorship bye-election.
Ribadu, former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was also the presidential candidate of defunct Action Congress of Nigeria for the 2011 Presidential Election.
“We are not happy that Ribadu has left us, but one thing that is clear now is that his movement has created more problems for PDP in the state.
“The party in Adamawa is healthy and vibrant,  what we are working on now is to have a formidable candidate for the Oct. 11 bye-election to recover our  mandate,” Bakari said.
On its part, The PDP in Adamawa said Ribadu’s defection was a welcome development.
The State Secretary of PDP, Tahir Shehu, told NAN that the doors of the party were open,  not only to Ribadu but also for anyone wishing to join it.
Meanwhile, a visit to Ribadu’s governorship campaign office in Jimeta area of Yola, showed that it is wearing a new look with PDP flags hoisted there.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Opens about Her Success Story, Fears & being Scandal Free

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde - November 2013 - BellaNaija
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is currently soaking up the sun on vacation with her family in South Africa, but just before they jetted off in style, she had an interview with The Sun.
In the quick chat, Omosexy talks about her success, fears, achievements and loads more.

On how to be a successful woman: “It actually starts with character, personality and beliefs. Everything wrong today actually started from the content of a character. Are you immoral or are you straight forward enough to actually say something and carry through with it. Is the content of your character strong enough? I believe that for you to be great in anything, you have to be someone anyone can trust.you believe in. It stems from your moral.”
On what success means to her: “I think success is when God is happy with you. When the closest people around you are happy with you and when your soul is at peace with you.”
On her greatest achievements: “I have so many great achievements and I am very grateful to God. I can talk about great achievements today because God has empowered me to build my character. At no point did I see all these coming. I never said, ‘let me start being a good girl so that in the future, they will call me to speak, not only on Nollywood but also in mentorship capacity outside Nollywood’. I never said ‘okay, let me be a good girl so that Time magazine will make me a Time 100 woman’; I never thought about all these things. But by God`s grace, I am here today. He taught me to follow a particular life pattern when I was young. And I am grateful that pattern has brought me this far. My greatest achievement is that I got to know God on time; it was a great privilege.”
On her fears & what makes her cry: “Don’t believe me when I cry because I might actually be trying to get something out of you (Laughter). My husband says he doesn’t know when to take me serious, whether it’s when I am crying or sober. But I am naturally a very emotional person, quite frankly. I hate injustice; I can’t stand it. When I see somebody who is helpless, I feel like that person’s humanity has been taken away from him and that makes me cry.”
On her story: “At a stage, people looked down on me. They tried to deny me my credit and make me feel insecure. But you know you deserve what you get as long as you have worked hard enough. So, no matter what you are going through, you’re not the only person facing tragedy in life; it happens to everyone.”
On her daughters following in her footsteps: “Why not, if they want to? I actually encourage them to be whatever they desire to be in life as long as it is not something wrong and negative. Currently, none of them is interested in acting, but if they do, I will support and equip them with whatever tools they need to excel. Unfortunately, none has for now.”
On being scandal free: “People will always speculate about you and it could be very disheartening, especially when you have chosen to live right. I don’t want to sound like some holier-than-though whatever, but I work very hard to keep my brand away from scandals. I have fought. I have had to and I will not accept for you to humiliate me before everybody’. Often they try to be mischievous but I stick to my guns (they) stand and say, ‘hey! This is what I stand for times they have also turned around to say sorry. For heaven’s sake, I am responsible for the actions and decisions that I take.”

Nigeria Customs Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth N107 Million in 28 Days

Customs Seize goods Bella Naija
Ikeja (NAN) – The Customs Federal Operations Unit (F.O.U.), Zone ‘A’ Ikeja , says it intercepted 336 units of smuggled goods valued at N107 million between July 13 and Aug. 9.
In a statement on Friday in Lagos, Usman Turaki, Acting Controller of the unit, said 19 suspects were being interrogated in connection with the seizures.
Turaki said that the seized goods had a payable duty of N42.94 million with a duty paid value of N150.45 million.
He advised smugglers to channel their resources to more meaningful ventures instead of smuggling.
According to him, the seizures include seven trucks of jumbo bales of textile materials impounded from a warehouse in Oshodi.
Turaki said that on July 21, the Oyo Patrol Team of the unit intercepted two trucks loaded with 1,737 bags of smuggled rice on Basi-Iseyin Road.
He said the Duty Payable Value (DPV) of the rice was N11.10 million, adding that over 2,000 cartoons of smuggled foreign poultry products were also intercepted on the Lagos- Abeokuta Expressway.
The controller said that the unit had identified some flashpoints and had mounted aggressive patrol activities to ensure that all flanks were blocked.
“I am advising smugglers in the South West to relocate or else they would face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
Turaki said that genuine importers or their representatives would always enjoy the support of the unit to facilitate legitimate trade in line with global best practices.

FG Fires 16,000 Resident Doctors

doctors_march Bella Naija
On Wednesday, August 13, the Nigerian government fired all resident doctors in the country.
Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, reportedly issued the order to halt the residency training programme for doctors in Nigeria “until further notice.”
The National Association of Resident Doctors, which is affiliated with the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), is estimated to have 16,000 members.
According to reports, the federal government took the drastic measure “after exploring all avenues to end the strike, which it said had compounded the health crisis in the country,” Punch reports.
An excerpt from the press release by the Deputy Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Health, Alhaji Isiaka Yusuf, states:
“The situation has been compounded by the recent importation of the Ebola Virus Disease into Nigeria on July 20, 2014. Following the Presidential declaration of a National Public Health Emergency on Ebola Disease, which has united the entire country in the efforts to contain the disease, it is quite regrettable that the people who should take leadership role in the fight against the Ebola disease are now the most unsupportive.”
